Completely See Through Solar Cell Can Turn All Windows & Mobile Devices Into Mini Power Plants
Ubiquitous Energy, an MIT startup, is close to bringing transparent solar panels to market. With a predicted efficiency of 10%, the number of watts produced could add up quickly. “Ubiquitous Energy has raised approximately $10 million since 2013 and has won numerous awards for its business and technology,” per their website.
Just imagine every window in a high rise building being a solar panel. Or your home windows, sliding glass doors & skylights at home producing unobtrusive attractive energy every day.
There is even talk about making cell phone screens out of transparent solar panels that could keep your phone battery or tablet topped up while you are outside or atleast give you a few extra minutes of talk time per charge.
The technology is called transparent luminescent solar concentrator (TLSC). Possibilites are endless. The solar power market will definitely have to keep it’s eyes out for this amazing adventure to hit the market.
